Sleeper & Woodchip Pack for Hobby Henhouse
Sleeper & Woodchip Pack for
Sleeper & Woodchip Packs for the Hobby Henhouse & Run. For both the Hobby with 6ft or 9ft Runs.
The hardwood woodchip is an excellent, hygienic, surface for the birds - almost self-cleaning when it rains. If necessary though, just rake and rinse through with a garden hose.
The woodchip can be placed directly on to the ground, we do not recommend a geotextile underlay, not only for reasons of hygiene, as the 'poo' will not wash/drain through it, but also the hens will dig it up.
Refresh the woodchip with new perhaps twice a year, and also scatter some powder disinfectant over it once a month to keep it fresh. Much more healthy than bare soil for the birds, and less smelly too.
The Timber Sleepers are tanalised softwood, they don't have to be dug into the ground, they are just as effective placed on top of the grass/ground - although, you may find you need to dig them in a few inches to make them level, and making them level is important to the stability of the run.
For the Hobby Henhouse with 6ft Run - Max. external dimensions of the plinth frame: 2280mm long by 940mm wide.
Hobby Henhouse with 9ft Run - Max. external dimensions of the plinth frame: 3240mm long by 940mm wide.
The Pack contains a set of pressure treated timbers, 10in x 5in (250mm x 125mm), to build a raised plinth for the Run frame with large timber 'pads' for the feet of the Hobby House.
In the case of the 6ft run, 2 bags of hardwood woodchip will create a clean, perfect surface for the hens. The 9ft Run includes 3 bags of Woodchip.
The Sleepers are cut to the lengths required to suit this layout. The max. length of any single sleeper is 4ft (1220mm), a detailed layout plan is included.
