Feeders & Drinkers
How to Choose the Best Feeder or Drinker for Your Poultry
A good feeder and drinker are two of the essentials you will need for your chickens so selecting the right one is important. Consider not only how and where the birds use them but also how easy is it for you to clean and refill.
Firstly, a Chicken Feeder. So, how many birds do you have? For Pelleted Feed (the most popular) allow 150-200g per bird per day e.g. 5 birds may eat 1kg per day. Do you need a tube feeder or a trough feeder? With legs? Plastic or galvanised? With a rain hat? Treadle or wall mounted?
For the Drinker, you should allow 1 litre per day for 3 birds. In winter they will drink less as the days are shorter and cooler, in summer months though, allow more. You can choose top-fill, bottom-fill, tank drinkers, and fountain drinkers, each with its own merits as to cost and convenience.
