A Timber Plinth and Woodchip Pack to create a permanent home for your chickens. To save you from having to move the hen house and run every few weeks - why not consider this package to make a secure, fox-proof, level surface by raising it on a timber (sleeper-size) plinth and filling the inside surface with hardwood woodchip.
The hardwood woodchip is an excellent, hygienic, run flooring surface for the birds - almost self-cleaning in the rain. If necessary just wash through with a garden hose monthly, replace the woodchip perhaps twice a year, and apply powder disinfectant over it regularly.
The woodchip can be placed directly on to the ground, we do not recommend a geotextile underlay for hygiene reasons and, the hens will soon dig it up too.
The Timber Sleepers don't have to be set down or dug into the ground, they are just as effective placed on top of the grass/ground - although, you may find you need to dig them in to make them level, and making them level is important to the stability of the run.
The Pack contains a set of pressure treated timbers, 10in x 5in (250mm x 125mm), to build a raised plinth, and 3 - 4 bags of hardwood woodchip to create a clean, perfect surface for the hens. The Sleepers are tanalised softwood and are cut to the lengths required.
Max. length of any sleeper is 4ft (1220mm) - and it will come with a layout plan instruction sheet. The whole unit sits along the centre line of the plinth.
With 6ft Run the max. external dimensions of the plinth frame: 2940mm long by 1200mm wide.
With 9ft Run max. external dimensions of the plinth frame: 3880mm long by 1200mm wide.
Delivery is via 7.5t Palletline Transport lorry. If ordered with your Henhouse they will all arrive together with your main order - if ordered separately then delivery costs start at £59.00 to most of mainland England, other parts of the UK may be slightly more.
