Flyte Swift Nest Box
The Flyte Wooden Swift Nesting Box. Our Swift Nesting Box simply hangs under the eaves with just two screws and makes great accommodation for these magnificent birds.
Encourage these beautiful, and endangered, birds to nest and breed by placing these boxes under the eaves of your house, outbuilding or barn.
The acrobatic Common Swift makes an epic migration to the UK around May each year and the loss of nesting sites means they are in decline. UK Conservation status: Red.
Swifts have long, scythe-like wings and a short forked tail but are larger than Swallows but swoop in flight too. Swifts are plain sooty brown but they appear black in flight.
They are, like the Swallow, an aerial bird, and a superb flyer. They eat, bathe, and mate on the wing, and rarely touch the ground. Swifts pair for life, returning to the same site each year to breed.
The Nest Box has a sloping roof to protect against weather extremes. The roof is screwed shut to prevent predators such as squirrels from stealing eggs or chicks but can easily be unscrewed for cleaning and mounting. The Swift Box is mounted via two screw holes inside the box.
Handcrafted here in our Dorset workshop and constructed from slow-grown, untreated, Scandinavian Redwood. The 20mm thick, Certified Sustainable, close-grain timber has excellent insulation properties to keep the birds warm in winter and cool in summer.
All screws are double-plated, so your bird nesting boxes will last you for many years to come. All Flyte Nesting Boxes carry our Flyte so Fancy Quality Stamp.
Each nest box has the corners sanded and it has been finished in a Nano-Tech coating for long term preservation against fungal attack and rot. Perfectly bird-safe.
