Flyte Treecreeper Nest Box

The Flyte Wooden Treecreeper Nest Box is a strong wedge-shaped box specially designed to suit Treecreepers and the way they like to nest.

Tough wooden nesting box specifically designed for Treecreepers using 20mm thick untreated timber with a chestnut brown, creature-safe, protective coating applied for longevity and to help it blend into its surroundings.

These lovely little birds are very hard to spot but love mature trees where they can scuttle up and down the bark looking for insects and spiders. They root these out with their long thin hooked beaks as they work their way up the trees.

Treecreepers are common in the UK but their speckly brown and white feathers camouflage them very well against the bark.  If you are lucky, you may just see a little movement perhaps, and then they freeze so you can't see them easily. They are just 12cm long with a 20cm wingspan.

Their nests are made where the bark comes away slightly from the tree trunk so these nest boxes replicate that wedge shape and access hole position to encourage them to use the nest box and keep them safe.

Although not endangered as a species they do find it increasingly hard to find the perfect nesting places. They like to build nests in June when there is ample supply of insects.

Made from 20mm thick, Certified, Scandinavian Redwood boards and further protected with a Chestnut Brown nano-technology coating to make sure it lasts for many, many years. All nails are stainless steel and screws are double plated (to prevent rust).

Dimensions: 35cm long overall; 14.5cm wide; house section is 27cm high with max. extension to 13cm. The entry hole has a 45mm radius. Weight approx 1kg. The hinged access lid, for cleaning, has a small solid brass hinge.

When installing, screw it on a tree trunk preferably one with some cover around it (like ivy). The ideal height is approx. 1.5m but no higher than 2m.

The lid should be screwed down to prevent predators like cats, from getting at the fledglings.
