Maggie's Dozen Hen House

The Maggie's Dozen Hen House is our most popular hen house and will house 12 laying hens (or 8 large birds) - shown in the photograph with a Buff Orpington and Lilac Wyandotte.

There is lots of space inside the Maggie's Dozen with three removable perches and a pull-out dirt tray which makes cleaning a much easier job - see more photos below.

There are external nest boxes, which can be removed for cleaning, and a large access door at the back. It also has a ventilation grille/window on the side and our trade-mark heart shaped (polycarbonate) window on the front (not compulsory, just let us know if you prefer it without a window).

Option to add the VSB automatic pop-hole opener: For this house you can have either an internal VSbi and a medium lightweight door, or external VSBb and a medium lightweight door.

Approx. 5ft 6in wide inc nestboxes, 3ft 6in deep, 5ft high. Actual overall external measurements: 1.73m wide x 1.12m deep x 1.52m high. Internally: 130cm x 95cm x 120cm high. Footprint centre foot to centre foot: 106cm x 78cm. Pop-hole 28cm wide x 33cm high.

Currently 2 week delivery. This house is normally delivered ready assembled wrapped and strapped on a pallet, via Palletline carrier. If it is more convenient for you flatpacked just let us know when ordering. Separate confirmation email will detail delivery date.

This is a super little battery operated unit that will open and close your henhouse pop-hole door according to light levels. The VSB is only for opening and closing vertical sliding doors - it will not work for ramps. It fits on the outside of the house and with a draw string will raise and lower the pop-hole door. No more getting up at 5am to let the hens out, or rushing home to close them in..........

We include our own instruction booklet which will guide the fitting and setting of the unit. The VSB units will operate vertical sliding doors, or, with the addition of pulleys it will operate some door at different angles (except horizontal doors). The unit has a weight limit of 3kg, so providing your door weigh less than 3kg it will work a door already fitted, it also needs the door to have a weight of less than 200g when closed (this is why it will not work with ramps). Alternatively there is the option of adding the lightweight metal door, shown below, and this is simply fitted in two channels mounted either side of the pop-hole. The VSB unit itself measures approx 5" x 5" and you would need about 2" of space between it and the top of the pop-hole door when open.

The VSB Automatic Opener units are powered by 4 AA batteries (included) which should last approx one year under normal operating conditions.

For our Hobby Henhouses, Handy Henhouses or Maggie's Six you need an internal VSBi. The information pages of each Flyte so Fancy house will say which VSB units are suitable.

The VSB units carry a 3-year warranty from the manufacturers in Germany. It covers all mechanical parts but not the cord and its use must comply with their conditions e.g. do not apply any grease, oil or WD40 to the unit. Whilst we offer all advice and help we can with installation and any troubleshooting, if a unit is faulty it is quickest to contact AXT directly and they will send a replacement circuit board. Their email address is in our instruction booklet. but do feel free to talk to us first for advice.

Easily fitted lightweight aluminium door for use with the VSB internal or external Door Openers (above). Can be fitted inside or outside henhouse. Consists of two aluminium runners and one flat aluminium door. You can cut the door and runners down to a custom size if required.

FSF Guide: Maggie's Six and Dozen Henhouses use a Medium Door (owing to the size of the pop-hole on the Maggie's 24 we have to make a lightweight wooden door to fit - please state during ordering if for a Maggie's 24). Hobby Henhouses use a Med Door; Handy Henhouses use a Medium Door.
