50m length of Green Electric Poultry Netting made by Hotline Electric Fencing UK. Electric Poultry Netting is simply the best way we have found to protect your poultry from the desires of the fox, badger, mink etc. We must stress, electric netting is for keeping the fox out not for keeping the chickens in although it can do that too. The bottom strand (black) is not electrified to prevent shorting out where it touches the ground, but the fox would not be able to dig underneath the netting without getting a shock from the electrified wires.

This is a 12-strand net, standing 110cm high (approx 3' 8"), and the mesh has 7.6cm wide x 6.3cm high squares at the base going up to 7.6cm x 11.4cm at the top. A 50m roll of netting, when used to make a complete fence, will cover an area of approx. 159 sq m (40' x 40'). This netting also comes in 16m and 25m rolls.

The 50m electric netting roll is supplied with 15 x 110cm black flexi-posts each with a 15cm long metal spike which you push into the ground. It comes with guy twines and pegs, anchoring pegs for the bottom strand and a net repair kit. This 50m electric netting has an in-built gateway at one end of the net. When installing the net, carefully unroll the net roughly in position. Then push the posts into the ground around your henhouse until the two end posts meet. It should be kept as taut as possible and free of vegetation, then use the guy ropes on the posts to tension the top strand and the anchoring pegs on the bottom non-live strand to close any gaps over uneven ground. You may find it difficult to stop the fence 'sagging' on sloping ground so extra black flexi-posts may be needed here. Note: the netting does not need to 'meet' to make a circuit; it could be in a 'U' shape or one long line and would still work. The 'electric circuit is completed when the fox touches the wire whilst his feet are on the ground.

You will need a 12v battery energiser with at least 0.5 stored joules energy for a 50m net, don't be tempted with lower capacity cheaper energisers they will just not put enough 'oomph' through the fence (11 strands x 50m is 550m of wire), and the slightest vegetation growth will seriously reduce the effectiveness of the fence. Netting is notoriously difficult to keep free of vegetation growth. For Mains energisers we would suggest at least 0.8 joules.

A mains powered 50m Electrified Poultry Netting Kit. We have included here the new dual power energiser from Hotline as a mains energiser but it can also be used as a battery energiser for a 12v battery - so if you change your mind, or find you cannot use mains anymore, simply add a 12v battery to the system and then the energsier can be placed outside (on a wall or post) near to the fence. This kit will protect an area of approx 156 sq m (40ft x 40ft) and with mains power you don't have to worry about the battery going flat, but the energiser unit does have to be housed under cover with access to 3 pin socket when used in a mains powered system.

The Gemini 80 Energiser has a consumption of 1.5 watts and output of 0.5 joules which can power 2 x 50m nets if required.

Options to add to this kit are a Fence Indicator Light which flashes with the pulses of the fence, this acts as a deterrent and also gives quick visual sign that the fence is working, or, a Fence Voltage Alert which clips on to the fence and a red light will flash if the fence is not on or if the voltage drops below a certain level (links below).

If your ground is sloping or particularly uneven it may be worth considering adding more Black Flexi Posts (link below) which also avoids the frustration of never having a post in the net where you need to change the fence direction. Although this net comes with 15 posts and we also include 5 extra posts, this may not be enough in all situations. There is a post inserted approx 1m from the end of the net to make a gateway into the pen. By using this section of the net as your entry point in and out of the pen you will prevent a lot of wear and tear on the main net.

The Hobby P450S Energiser from Hotline is a popular and very reliable energiser which could run 2 x 50m nets if required. It runs off a 12v re-chargeable leisure battery which sits outside the unit. This is not included in the kit but is available separately from the link below. You may find that you can source a leisure battery locally cheaper than we can send one to you, they can be found at caravan shops and some motor shops (make sure it is a 12v 85Amp/hr leisure battery though).
